Looking for a Weimaraner puppy?

Written by on Monday, October 20, 2008 – 2:28 pm -

I live in Provo, Utah, and I can't seem to find a single puppy around my area. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I think fostering a dog is free. A really good place to purchase or/and adopt a dog is from a breeder or an animal shelter. The average price essential for purchasing a dog ranges from $300-1000. And those bargains that are less than that aren't worth it because it is highly probable that the dog-mill bred and raised dog is deathly sick with various and numerous ailments and poorly house trained and/or people trained (optional). It's well known that dogs from pet mills, due to the dirty conditions and uncompassion in regards to the dogs wellbeing, that it is very sick with ailments which are often incurable but treatable with expensive heavy medication, which can tear a gap on your pocket. Don't be fooled by those pet shops because about 95% of all managers who maintain their pet shops purchase those apparently healthy cute and happy puppies from pet mills because they're so cheap! Disregarding animal rescue, your local dog shelter and breeder are the ones that truly care about where it is best suitable for their dogs to find that TLC. Usually they are very hesitant to allow you to adopt/ purchase a dog right away because you're a stranger to them. When you notice that fact and that they like to ask questions about your financial stability, job security, and other basic questions such as why do you want to get this particular breed? and why dogs in general? is your personality and lifestyle best suitable for your dogs needs…that's substantial evidence that they truly care about their dog. They ask those questions to make sure that although you promise to provide a loving home to the pet, you don't send it to the overpopulated animal shelter around the corner 2 weeks later. Some of them go to even extreme measures to force you to sign a contract, mandating that you must provide your dog with a loving home until so and so and if you are facing finanical instability, you should resort to returning the pet to the breeder rather than negotiating to have it settle in an animal shelter. Not all breeders do that but look for other obtruse signs that confirm their compassion for dogs. Of course, this is the IDEAL breeder! Not every breeder may fit this criteria. Check to see if the breeder is a member of pet owner organizations, such as the American Kennel Club or something similar and make sure it is valid. But if you can't seem to resist that bargain, make certain that retrieve documents about the dog's medical history and if they have received all of their vaccinations up to date. Prove that they are valid by a veterinarian. If the bargain benefactor refuses to present those papers, that's a sign that the dog potentially is sickly with numerous and various ailments. Learn more information that I possibly may have overlooked from an animal shelter, veterinarian and staff and the dog owner community. And via the Internet, I heard that http://www.petfinder.com/ is very resourceful in finding healthy dogs of all types of breeds. One more thing, the biggest scam that imminent dog owners encounter is when they purchase a dog across the shore. Although those papers may be valid, on numerous occasions, you may never retrieve the dog. Or if you do, they manipulate you by deliberately granting you custody to the wrong dog, a mixed breed, or a look-alike. And don't be fooled. Even breeders are money-hungry self-centered tricksters! I would trust animal shelters more. For more information, get advice from animal rescue, a veterinarian and staff, dog owners, and animal shelters.

What is a good hip score for a Weimaraner?

Written by on Sunday, October 19, 2008 – 4:18 pm -

Hi Me and my family are looking at a Weimaraner puppy tomorrow. What is a good hip score for it also is there any other questions I should ask the breeder?

You won’t know the puppy’s hip score specifically. The puppy has to be older before that kind of testing is done. But the parents should have been health tested. You want to make sure the hips and elbows are OFA certified. But if you’re going to a good breeder, there should be many, many health tests run on their dogs. And all of them should have been passed.

Written by on Saturday, October 18, 2008 – 5:18 pm -

I need to find one by october 22, please contact me if you have information and answer please.
And not to rush anyone, it just sounded that way, and its because its my daughters birthday.
and she is very responsible and wants a weim.

Why by Oct 22?

Good luck with that. Good breeders usually have them sold by the time they are ready to go.

However, here are some suggestions on how to find a breeder in your area:

What type of dog should I get?

Written by on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 – 10:28 am -

I am a college student who is getting a house next year and I can’t decide what type of dog I should get. I want a semi big dog. I was thinking about a weimaraner but I was told those types of dogs were really hyper for the first 5 years or so. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know what type of dog this is?

http://ihasahotdog.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/cute-puppy-pictures-sorry-eyes.jpg

I am also looking for a dog that doesn't shed too much, or has short hair.

Firstly, the dog in the picture is a beagle. They don't grow very big, probably a medium in size.

Secondly, collage takes up a lot of time. Having a dog takes up time too. You need to make sure you can walk your dog at least once or twice a day depending on the breed. Weimaraners are very active and can get destructive, like many other breeds, when left at home unattended for long hours.

Money may also be a problem too. You will be paying for collage a house and a dog. getting a large dog, unless you are sure you can handle it, may not be the best thing at this point in time.

Because we don't know how active you are, how much time you have, what length of fur you want…etc. take this quiz instead. It is one of the most easiest quizzes I have come across. After you have finished and click submit, it will show you some all breeds that are good for you.

help name our new weimaraner?

Written by on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 – 9:51 pm -

We are getting a blue male weimaraner puppy soon.
I was thinking of the name Rigel (rye-jel) which is a blue star in the constellation orion. I thought it was a great name since it is a blue start and orion is a great hunter, however my wife does not like it.

Our other weim is named axel, not after axel rose it is just a good german name.

any other ideas?

I think Rigel is a great name! It has meaning and it is different.

Weimaraner puppy house training problems ?

Written by on Sunday, October 12, 2008 – 7:12 pm -

My last dog took no time at all to train, but this one can’t seem to get it. We have her in a play pen and then I take her to the yard and she goes and I give her a treat. But if I don’t accompany her outside she will pee on the porch instead of the grass. If we let her down in side the house to run around for even 5 minuets she will go on the floor, even if she just went. I don’t feed her after 2pm or let her drink after 6pm. It’s been 3 weeks and she is worse then ever. Help! I know she is smart I already taught her how to sit, stay, come, very easily.

She probably potties on the floor when you let her out in the house because she gets overly excited. My dog gets so excited that she pees when my dad gets home from work everyday, and this has been happening for 2 years. The reason it’s not fixed is that my dad won’t ignore her so he makes it seem like a very exciting experience and gives my dog lots of attention. This could be the same for your dog, so don’t let her out in an excited state, and keep her on a leash for a while until she calms down. As for going potty on the porch if you don’t go out with her, maybe she thinks she’ll only get a treat if you come out with her. Start cutting back to only giving her a treat every few times you accompany her outside and give her praise when you don’t have a treat. If she goes potty on the porch, don’t scold her or anything, but don’t give her any treats or praise either. Eventually she will figure out that going in the grass is the only way she’ll get positive attention. Remember, dogs are like kids, negative attention is still better than no attention, so try your best to refrain from yelling at her if she goes potty in the wrong place.

You could also try crate training her. I’ve found that many of the dogs that get adopted from the humane society I work at do extremely well when they get crate trained. Here’s an excellent website about how to do it: http://dogs.about.com/cs/basictraining/p/crate_training.htm

The only requirements for crates are they need to be big enough for your dog to sit, stand, lie down, and turn around. Because your puppy will grow into a larger sized dog, I would recommend getting a bigger crate with a dividing panel so you can let your puppy only use part of it for now, but you won’t have to purchase another one down the line. You don’t want the puppy to have enough room to potty on one side of the kennel and lay on the other.

Good luck! Hope this works out for you!
