Has anyone had there weimaraners anal glands surgically removes and would you recommed it to be done?
Written by on Friday, August 29, 2008 – 8:27 pm -I HAVE A WEIMAR THAT IS 2 YRS OLD AND HER ANAL GLANDS NEEDS EXPRESSED PRETTY OFTEN. SHE WILL GO A MONTH OR 2 WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT THEN SHE GOES THROUGH SPELLS WHERE SHE NEEDS IT DONE ONCE EVERY WEEK OR SO. WE ARE THINKING OF GETTING THE SURGERY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT I AM AFRAID OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO HER IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG.
You might ask your vet about the procedure of infusing the anal glands rather than removing them. It would definitely be less risky for the animal. It wouldn't stop the anal glands from becoming impacted, but it would certainly cut down on the vet visits.
